Harry Cook obtained
a BSc (agr.) (1960) and a MSc (agr.) (1962), both in Animal Science, at the
University of British Columbia. He was granted a DSc in Zoology at the VU University
in Amsterdam in 1966 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jan Lever. He carried
out research on the endocrinology of sockeye salmon while on a post-doctoral position at Simon
Fraser University (1966-69). He then taught biology at Trinity Christian
College in Palos Heights, IL (1969-77) and Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA
Cook joined the faculty of The King’s
College, as it was then called, when the institution started its teaching
programs in 1979. He taught a variety of biology courses and also continued to
do research on fish endocrinology using the electron microscope. Most of this
research was done in the group of Dr. R.E. Peter in the Department of
Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta. He was adjunct Professor at
U. of A from 1988 until 2000. He became Professor Emeritus at King’s in 1999; he
continued to teach History and Theory of Biology for some years, and to do
research on theoretical topics in biology.
